Practice notebook

Use reading time with purpose

Read for the task, not for a diagnosis.

Put it into practice

Start with the instruction

Identify what you must do, who you are speaking with and the setting. A request to explain is different from a request to assess.

Use the supplied record

Note the information already available and the questions that remain. Distinguish a given finding from something you will need to request.

Plan an opening, not a script

Prepare a clear first question and a few priorities. Leave room to respond to what the person says.

Carry linked reading forward

Where a case includes linked pre-reading or retained notes, use them in the following stage. In Learn and Practise, use Start Conversation When Ready; the suggested reading duration is not a mandatory wait. Exam Conditions and protected mocks instead follow their authored reading and transition rules.
